In order to domesticate a foreign judgment in Texas, you'll need to obtain an exemplified copy of the judgment from the court in which it was obtained, and send the original to Texas Turnover Receivers.
A foreign judgment is a court-ordered judgment that was obtained in any U.S. state outside of Texas.
An exemplified copy is a copy of an official document, such as a court pleading or judgment, which is obtained from the County Clerk or the Judgment Clerk where the particular judgment was obtained. The clerk will certify in writing, affixing three corporate seals or some form of a raised stamps on the document, that the particular document as was properly signed and entered. Exemplified copies are more than certified copies -- the clerk certifies that the copies are genuine and the judge certifies that the clerk has the authority to say they are genuine.
Once the exemplified copy of the judgment, as well as the cost, is received by Texas Turnover Receivers, the time to domesticate the judgment can take a few days up to a few weeks, depending on the response time from the court.
An Abstract of Judgment is a document that that is filed with the real property records to create a lien on certain property owned by the debtors. This is not a document that is automatically filed if you have a judgment. Extra steps must be taken in order to create the Abstract of Judgment and file it in the real property records, which includes paying a fee.
